I've heard Medved dispute that divorce is so high in the US.
heh, the study makes it very clear, divorce mostly enriches the lawyers. What it doesn't outline is that although the woman walks away with a smaller pile, she also walks away with a slave in the form of her ex-husband, who after the divorce has alimony and child support to pay - often for the rest of his life, payments that cannot be reduced even if the man's income drops, or he loses his job, or if he goes bankrupt. Dred Scott like laws even make a man who tries to escape to another state an automatic felon. The only actual way to avoid this slavery IS to die, or to leave the country. Of course, child support debts are still good against any estate you leave behind, so it's not a total escape. But perhaps the leach-like spouse will have to pay up in another way, when her bad karma catches up with her in the next life.
