Osama to Useful Idiots: Bush Is Our Common Enemy

"We know that the majority of your people want this war to end and opinion polls show the Americans don't want to fight the Muslims on Muslim land, nor do they want Muslims to fight them on their (US) land....

"But Bush does not want this and claims that it's better to fight his enemies on their land rather than on American land.

*
"In response to the substance of the polls in the US, which indicate that Americans do not want to fight Muslims on Muslim land, nor do they want Muslims to fight them on their land, we do not mind offering a long-term truce based on just conditions that we will stick to.

"We are a nation that Allah banned from lying and stabbing others in the back, hence both parties of the truce will enjoy stability and security to rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan, which were destroyed by war.

"There is no problem in this solution, but it will prevent hundreds of billions from going to influential people and warlords in America - those who supported Bush's electoral campaign - and from this, we can understand Bush and his gang's insistence on continuing the war."

Flashback: Bin Laden's first use of lefty talking points: He mocked Mr Bush for his conduct immediately after the September 11 attacks, talking about him preferring to stay in a classroom, "listening to a child discussing her goats", leaving "50,000 citizens in the two towers to face those horrors alone".

Bin Laden's attack was reminiscent of Michael Moore's film Fahrenheit 9/11 which used footage of Mr Bush in the first minutes after being told of the attacks continuing to read My Pet Goat to children.

Kossacks Weigh In: Bush Is OBL's Puppet

I know Bush doesn't have the brains to compete with Bin Laden - but I sometimes wonder if his advisors keep Bin Laden out there to help Bush's ratings out.

Kossacks Weigh In: OBL Has Given Dems a Gift!

Update: U.S. Intel: No Signs of Looming Attack

Intelligence officials said authenticating the tape, released by the television network Al-Jazeera Thursday morning, could take between several hours and several days — and perhaps through the weekend.

Update: NYT: The voice sounded short-winded on the tape and lacked the charismatic tone typical of Mr. bin Laden's past recordings.

DU Turds Question the Timing

Update: Jazeera Didn't Broadcast Entire Tape

The network's editor in chief, Ahmed Sheik, said the full tape is 10 minutes long and that four "newsworthy" excerpts were broadcast, the Associated Press reported. Sheik would not say what was on the rest of the tape or comment on when or where it was received.

Update: Time's Analysis: Jealousy?

Despite directly addressing Americans, its primary purpose may nonetheless be to remind Arab and Muslim audiences of his existence, and to reiterate his claim to primacy among the Jihadists....

[I]n the year of Bin Laden's silence, he has begun to be supplanted as the media face of global jihad by Musab al-Zarqawi, whose grisly exploits in Iraq grab headlines week after week. Not only that, Zarqawi may even be running operations abroad.... Although Zarqawi two years ago swore an oath of loyalty to Bin Laden, he is believed previously to have had something of a competitive relationship with the al-Qaeda leadership. And the public statements attributed to Zarqawi and those of Ayman al-Zawahiri have been noticeably at odds over questions of beheading kidnap victims and of wanton violence against Shiite Muslims. Zarqawi may have embraced the Qaeda brand with Bin Laden as its figurehead, but his essentially autonomous field operation in Iraq has become the movement's center of gravity.

Allah is back posting! Yay!

As to the tape...

Murtha and Nancy and Reid will no doubt rush to the presses to denounce the idea that they want a truce with the terrorists....

Sigh.

Tape is a month old?

What does that mean? The article linked gives no details. Did al-jizz receive the tape a month ago? Did somebody scribble the date on the outside of the tape? Does somebody on the tape say "I'm recording this tape in December"? Of course, none of those are reliable indicators of when the tape was made.

CNN is saying that al-jizz says he references the supposed Bush/Blair conversation of bombing the al-jizz HQ. But CNN says they haven't heard that part of the tape themselves. If that bears out, that would be a very reliable dating point.

As far as the references to attacking European capitals or public opinion polls about Afghanistan and Iraq, that is not a reliable indicator. The discussions to go to war in Iraq started a long time ago. Why doesn't he say London/Madrid specifically? He uses a generic "European capitals". Obviously Al-Qaeda had plans for "European capitals", probably for more than 10 years.

Osama could have easily made hundreds of short tapes in 2001-04 like this in which he would speak in generic language of possible events in preparation for his death so he could live on as a boogeyman for eternity and a rallying point for all the headchoppers.

He could have easily spent one good day making tapes systematically going thru every possible scenario: US attacks Iraq / Iran / Syria / etc, American city X / Y / Z attacked, and so on. So what if 90 of the tapes turned out wrong. The custodian of the tape would just so burn them.

The rest could be released every so often like some satanic Hari Seldon.

I'm not saying he's dead, but I don't see anyway of dating this tape unless the al-jizz report of his discussing the bombing of their HQ is true.

Funny, the words on the alleged Bin Laden tape sound a lot like recent scripts out of Hollywood.

Bravo! Your use of the "Useful Idiots" phrase truly fits.

Man, the CIA leaks worse than my wife's 1988 Volvo.

Aren't they supposed to be clandestine for the most part?

There sure are a lot of gabby folks at Foggy Bottom. Tom Clancy must be muttering into his scotch.

Hey Allah! Welcome back!

If this is OBL, and the tape is over a month old, then Ledeen's claim that Osama's pushing up daisies since December is still possible. I wouldn't be surprised if OBL made a series of tapes (as proposed above) that were general enough to pass scrutiny, knowing he was dying and had to give the shock troops something to rally around.

Time will tell.

As an aside: Keep your eyes on the troop movements. Especially the reposition of AF and Navy bomber squadrons. Something's afoot. Iran's in the cross-hairs. They know it, Europe knows it. We are getting our diplomatic ducks in a row, so to speak.

OBL Comeback Recording a Disappointment:

Considering the money and time poured into his latest recording, the reclusive OBL seems to have missed his mark. Fans patiently waiting for the delayed release had rationalized the hold-up as having been due to OBL's exacting presence in the studio. They can stop holding their breath.

"Truce" is a tawdry and turgid affair that loses its way almost from the start. Tracks such as "We Are Not Permitted to Lie" have their funky bass beat (Bootsy Collins) obscured by the monotonous delivery of the lyrics. OBL fanatics will want the album, of course, if for nothing but archival purposes, but for me the only glowing moment was his remake of Jim Carroll's "People Who Died."
